Can Bulk Bags Be Patched?

Here at Centurion Packaging, we know that workplace accidents can sometimes happen unexpectedly.

If you use bulk bags regularly in your work, there is the chance they could get stretched, ripped or otherwise damaged. Designed with individually woven strands of polypropylene fabric, these containers are exceptionally durable and have the capability to contain huge amounts of material.

However, they are not indestructible and over time or suddenly they can acquire damage from improper use, forklift accidents or box cutter errors.

If you cannot get a new bulk container straight away, you have the option of patching up a tear for a short period of time until your new order arrives. Centurion Packaging does not recommend patching up bulk containers, this is ultimately at the user’s discretion.

How You Can Patch Up a Bulk Bag

If you decide to temporarily patch up your bulk bag, you could use patch tape, just ensure you have enough to cover the affected area and then cut the tape from the roll.

Make sure you never try to place a patch over a dirty or wet bag and depending on the state of the bag you may need to apply the tape in a particular way. If the contents are escaping through the puncture, you will need to start placing the patch at the lower portion of the hole. Then move upward so as much of the contents are contained immediately.

You will now need to peel the backing off the tape and apply the patch over the tear. Never assume the tape will just work, firmly press the entire area of the patch and pay particular attention to the edges. Finally, make sure no substances are leaking.
